Burundi: Burundian government harasses independent radio stations

The Committee for the protection of journalists has stated that the government of the president Pierre Nkurunziza is attempting to silence the independent Medias which criticized his government.

Patrick Mitabaro, the chief editor of the Radio Isanganiro has been invited by the public prosecutor twice since July 2011 after releasing a statement made by Isidore Rufyikiri, the Burundian Bar Association President currently in prison. The latter has been arrested after critisising the Burundian judiciary system as being undermined by the government interference. Before Patrick Mitabaro another journalist Jean-Claude Kavumbagu was in prison for 10 months.
