The Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders in Africa has just learnt of the release of Mr. Daniel Deuzoumbé Passalet, President of the Association of Human Rights Without Borders (DHSF) and Adviser in Chad to the Network of Human Rights Defenders in Central Africa (REDHAC), who had been arrested on 21 December last by the Chadian Authorities.Read more

Good practice of making use of the Special Rapporteur by Malawi Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation (CHRR).

The Malawi Centre for Human Rights and Rehabilitation(CHRR) has invited the Special Rapporteur , the Honorable Commissioner Reine Alapini-Gansou for a four days workshop on the commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights . This will be from 23 to 26 January 2012. The workshop will take place in Lilongwe and will be an opportunity for human rights defenders in Malawi to be in contact with the Special Rapporteur beside the activity of the workshop.

The Honorable Commissioner Reine Alapini-Gansou appointed for the third time Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders in Africa

The Honorable Commissioner Reine Alapin-Gansou has been appointed Special Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders in Africa by the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (African commission) during the 50th Ordinary Session of the African commission held in Bajul,The Gambia from 24 October to 5 November 2011.
She has held in the past the same mandate from November 2005 to November 2009

The National Endowment for Democracy honored Floribert Chebeya with its Democracy Service Medal in a ceremony Tuesday at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.
